Sean Mathews is a correspondent with Middle East Eye covering US foreign policy and a wide swath of the Middle East and southeastern Europe. He previously wrote for The Economist, Al Monitor, and Al Jazeera, among others. He has reported across Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey and Greece. He previously consulted with several leading political risk and advisory firms in Washington, DC and London. His first book, The New Byzantines: The Rise of Greece and Return of the Near East, published by Hurst, is a bold reappraisal of Greece’s place in the wider Middle East and exploration of its rising geopolitical importance in a multipolar world.
